Web design is an ever-evolving field where new methodologies, user experiences, and technological advancements are constantly being updated. Today, we'll learn a bit about it together.

The History

To bring you up to speed on how web design has evolved, we'll need to take a step back to the 1990s. (For those of you old enough to remember websites in the 90s, you'll know this one) The websites of the 1990s were filled with bright & vibrant (as vibrant as they could manage on their hardware) colours and old-fashioned animated GIFs. This is the era where JavaScript and Flash just started to become a thing around the back half of the 90s. Then came to 2000s, where Flash and JavaScript became really popular and web designers took advantage of this. Suddenly, homepages were filled with animated intros and interactive elements. (if you remember the big ENTER button with a glowing border or bright colours) Although this added flair and excitement, site responsiveness was at an all-time low. A decade later, we got the 2010s. The rise of the smartphone had arrived, and a LOT of web designers took advantage of this new wave by starting to design sites for mobile users first, as a large number of new customers were going to browse on their smartphones. This turned out to be a great success, as many brands grew exponentially, so did smaller businesses latch on to the idea (some of the sites you still use today started out this way). And now we've arrived in the 2020s, this half-decade can be described in just 2 simple letters, (A.I). During the start of the 2020s, AI became a global giant spanning almost every field of...well, basically anything you can think of, and this included Web Designing. AI has revolutionised the way web design functions ever since the 90s, as AI such as Wix ADI (artificial design intelligence), Adobe Sensei and other new AI have risen to the forefront of web design. They have streamlined the web creation process and have made it accessible for many more businesses around the world.

2025 and beyond

If you read the last blog, you'll know what's popular in web design these days, and if not, then head on over and give it a read. Don't worry, I'll still be here when you're finished. Back to what I was saying, the future of web design is looking to be very promising with new innovations such as VUI (voice user interface), voice assistants like Siri, Bixby and Alexa, and web designers are adapting to use voice searches and voice-based interactions, and are now considering how users can further interact with their site using voice commands. Augmented reality, or AR for short, is another branch that's beginning to be seen by newer sites as AR is a way to push interactivity to the limit, while still being able to be used for virtual try-ons and other immersive experiences that can draw in an audience.

Wrapping things up

As we look toward the future, web design is a constantly evolving field, so looking at the latest and newest advancements is key to making your business website grow and thrive. Make your site the best thing.
